About Our Practice
For over 30 years, Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy Center has proudly served the community with a commitment to exceptional, personalized eye care. Founded by Dr. Heidi L. Johnson, the practice was established with the goal of bringing high-quality, compassionate vision care to the community where she grew up. Since opening its doors, the office has remained dedicated to helping patients of all ages achieve their best possible vision and eye health through advanced technology, continuing education, and individualized care.
In 2001, Superior Eye Health expanded its services by adding a Vision Therapy department after Dr. Johnson completed extensive post-doctorate training in visual integration and developmental vision disorders. Her specialized training focused on binocular and oculomotor conditions, visual perception difficulties, and sensory integration delays that can impact reading, learning, and daily functioning. In 2005, Dr. Johnson earned Fellowship certification through the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), becoming one of only a small number of FCOVD-certified optometrists in the state of Michigan.
Over the years, the Vision Therapy department has continued to grow and now also provides neuro-rehabilitation services for patients recovering from acquired brain injuries, strokes, and other neurological conditions affecting the visual system.
The practice began in a small rented space on the corner of McClellan and Ridge before purchasing the building in 1994. As the office continued to grow, a new state-of-the-art facility was built behind the Westwood Mall at the corner of Venture and Commerce Drive, where Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy Center relocated in February 2006. Today, the practice continues to evolve alongside the ever-changing optical industry by investing in advanced diagnostic technology, modern treatment methods, and high-quality optical products including lenses, contact lenses, coatings, and frame styles designed to meet the unique needs of every patient.
At Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy Center, education, training, certification, and lifelong learning remain at the core of the practice philosophy. The team is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in eye care to ensure patients receive the highest standard of service and treatment available. Most importantly, the office has built its reputation on outstanding customer service, compassionate care, and a team-centered approach focused on creating the best possible experience for every patient who walks through the door.
Comprehensive Eye Care Beyond a Glasses Prescription
At Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy Center, we believe an eye exam should be about far more than simply determining your glasses prescription. Our comprehensive eye examinations are designed to thoroughly evaluate both your vision and your overall eye health using advanced diagnostic technology and personalized care.
During your exam, we assess the health and function of the eyes in detail, carefully screening for eye diseases and systemic health conditions that can affect vision. This includes evaluating for conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, dry eye syndrome, retinal conditions, and other vision or eye health concerns.
Because many eye diseases develop gradually and without noticeable symptoms, routine comprehensive examinations are essential for early detection and prevention. Our doctors take the time to listen to your concerns, answer questions, and provide individualized recommendations to help protect your long-term vision and eye health.
Our goal is to provide exceptional, patient-focused care — combining thorough medical eye evaluations with personalized vision solutions for every stage of life.
