Boyd’s Story---
We had heard of other kids with difficulties similar to Boyd’s being helped with vision therapy, so we had him tested by Dr. Johnson. Watching these tests being done is amazing, really. You can see, at times, the very deficiency in vision causing some of the problems in your child’s life. As you can’t see through your child’s eyes, this gives you as a parent the concrete evidence of a real definable and hopefully curable condition. Once you see the results of these tests, if they’re positive for a problem of some kind, how could you not proceed with therapy?
The therapy itself is great. The therapists are extremely dedicated people and Boyd really liked going each week. Keep in mind we has a 4 hour round trip drive each week, so he must have felt it was worth it as he never complained. The home therapy sessions can be fun and challenging, and once into a routine, don’t seem to be any inconvenience to the normal family life.
Periodic evaluations give again concrete definable indicators of progress.
In Boyd’s case he felt better knowing what the problem was right from the start. He worked has and it has made a big difference in his school work and in his attitude. He knows he can do better know with the vision barriers out of the way.
Boyd Says—
I never liked school much. This year after going to vision therapy I was ready to find out if I could do better. Math and reading were hard before but now they are easier. In Spanish class we played a memory game. I got almost every one right-way more than most of the kids. Now my teachers don’t yell at me for my penmanship.
During my therapy my therapist helped me through it. I thought it was fun to learn this way.
